Cycle Safety

What: We did cycle safety in term 3
So What: We did this for two days, the first day we did tests and drills and the second day we carried on with these just on the road.

What : We have been competing in the Kauri Athletics Events
So What : I competed in the girls 11 year old events. I did better than last year and I enjoyed it more. 
Now What :   Next year my goal is to qualify for zones

Maths Multiplication

In class my group is completing a maths sheet with stategies that we already know. They are... Algorithm, Rounding and Compensating & Place Value. I find these easy now that i have learnt them.

New Maths Strategy

My maths group learnt a new strategy to solve all 9 times tables.
Here is an example of what we learnt...

1.  9 x 95= 855
    (10 x 95=950-95=855)

2.  9 x 2.6=23.4
     (10 x 2.6=26-2.6=23.4)

Passion Project Questioning

What: We have been learning about Questioning. We then framed open and closed questions based on my passion project. My topic is...
Grace Rasmussen and Kesha Grant, they are both netball players. Grace plays wing attack (WA) for the Silver Ferns (NZ netball team) and Kesha plays WA for the Tactix (Canterbury netball team).
So What: Our class had to come up with several questions about the character. Then we have to find out the answers to the questions. We had to come up with open questions and closed questions. Open questions always have a long answer or asks someones opinion. Closed questions always have an answer one word long or usually yes or no. My questions share whether they are closed or open and they are...

* How old were you when you started playing netball? Closed
* What teams/clubs have you previously played in? Open
* Why do you like netball? Open
* Do you play any other positions other than WA, and if so what are they? Open
* What is the hardest thing for you in netball and why? Open
Now What: My next step is to ask a variety of questions about the past, present and future.

Wigram Airorce Museum

This is a model plane that we had to piece together.

On Monday the 11th of May room 10 & 11 went to the Wigram Airforce Museum for the morning half of the day and learnt about flight aviation and how planes can fly. Also how planes have evolved.

My favourite thing I learnt was... there are  
two seater planes that two people can control and they are used to teach people how to fly planes.

Co-operative Plays

What : We worked together in a group to learn and perform a play for the class
So What : 

I was Mia (one of the team members)!
I co-operated with my group well and when we had to chant we chanted in sync. My first line was just after we finished jogging 5 kilometres so I made my character sound exhausted.

Now What : I need to have a clear voice and try to look at the audience rather than looking at the book the whole time.

The features we had to do find were...

Mr Hillary helped us find and understand the ones we couldn't find or didn't know. After that our reading group filled out a sheet that tells you to explain particular text features.
My next step...
is to find the authors hidden message or purpose.

Self Awareness

WHAT : we have been learning to ignore sight and sound distractions.
SO WHAT : I haven't had a self check all week.
NOW WHAT : In class we have set up a system called... Self Check. If someone talks when they're not supposed to, Mr H will say self check and then you have to grab a card (from pinned on the wall) that says 'students are trying to learn please be quiet', then write a mark next to your name. Once you have five marks beside your name there is a consequence and if you have none there will be a reward, any amount from 1-4 doesn't do anything it just mean try and lower the amount of marks.

At school we have learnt three different new experiments... Paper and Card helicopters, mini parachutes, a balloon rocket and even seeing a big model plane being driven around the school field. Through out our experiments be conducted a fair test while changing one variable. So we did 2-3 tests on each experiment testing them exactly the same apart from one thing different on one of the tests. We wrote down what we thought would happen (hypothesis/prediction)and what you would you would need to make it then we observed which one worked better. After that we drew a labeled diagram and a conclusion which tells you if the hypothesis was correct or not!

Reading book>>Training for Success

I am reading a book called 'Training for Success'. Phoebe Edwards is sixteen and is a naturally fast and has a personal best of 1.75 m high in high jump and a personal best of 5.6 m long in long jump she has a encouraging coach Mike Richie. For the two of them it's a combination of observing and measuring her performance and constantly working on improving her technique.

Swimming Lessons with Room 10

At School we did swimming lessons at starfish swim school. We were first observed by Laurie the head instructor for our freestyle to find out which lane we would be taught in. Then I went to the furthest lane (top) and learn some swimming skills. We arrived at swimming everyday for two weeks.
I was most sucessful at swimming... with my freestyle
I still need to work on... demonstrating correct arm movements while doing breast stroke
I enjoyed... my leg movements while doing breaststroke the most

Art Workshops

At school we get art workshops. When we had our first art workshop we drew a portrait of Ma A Nonu! Some things he shared with us to make it more alive were ...
Light     to see were the light is coming from to make it more realistic
Tone    where the light is coming from is where you could tone lightly
Shape   if the head is a circle then it doesn't look real because  no ones head is a circle
Lines    maybe for the eyes use thin lines but for the hair or hair out line  you could use thick ones
Colour   we did not add colour but that would of made it more effective
Shading   shading is sort of like colouring in except you hold your shading pencil side ways
I think I am at relational with taxonomy because I know all the elements, where , and why we use them.

Animal Reports

In class we are learning how to make animal reports. Your first paragraph should be about the animal classification (e.g what animal family)and who its relatives are. The second paragraph should include the animals body description and special features, maybe even what the special features do. After that paragraph this next one needs to be about how your animal hunts, its lifespan and how it lives. Last but not least, you need to make another paragraph full of facts that you haven't already mentioned in the others. We get our information from books from our school library or we use wikipedia / national geographic kids. First we had to do our reading group animal but now we get a choice of our own and I chose a vampire bat because that was the first book i pulled out from the library when we went there.

Run Bike Run

Well done to all of the contestants. I would like to thank Grace and Sophie for kindly accepting me into their team at such late notice ( due to my other team difficulties ). I did the first run, Sophie did the bike and grace did the last run. We all tried our best and at the end I realised that I could of done individual! I really enjoyed it and it was a fun change to where we usually compete.

My Statistics Learning

At school we have been focusing on statistics. We have been learning lots of graphs such as bar graphs, line graphs, picture graphs and pie charts! We also had to ask the class for their opinion on a chart and make tally marks then we turned it into a fraction. One of the graphs we had to make involved things like a title, a labled axis with amounts, a labled axis with options and some also had a key to show what they meant. An example of one of the graphs we made was which month was your birthday in and three sentences about what your results were e.g I found out that most people in the class had their birthdays in march! This is an example of a bar graph...

My Egg Journey

My Egg Sitting Challenge
At school we had a KOS activity challenge, which was to look after an egg for 4 days. We had to be a full time caregiver which meant we had to take it everywhere or find an egg sitter. We had to look after an egg because it can break easily, it's fragile and it's tempting to break! I accidentally broke Candices egg so I gave her mine and told Mr Hillary,then he said I could bring a new one because it is about learning from your mistakes so I looked after that one more carefully until the challenge finished!!!
